meridianPM – Our Integrated Practice Management Solution
Our
Corporate Philosophy is:
To provide the Best EMR and PM Systems available. To not force clients to switch
to our PM system or put sales pressure to do so. To attempt to interface our EMR with any commercially viable HL7 compliant
PM system that our client currently uses, or wishes to use. This will require some assistance from the PM vendor.
Introduction Why we offer an integrated EMR-PM solution The “one database/one server” vs. “two databases/two servers” debate What If your EMR system goes down? What do you do? Our PM Solution meridianPM Support meridianPM System Features
Introduction We believe we offer the “Best of Breed” Products, and therefore are not forced
into selling our prospects the need to change their PM system because of system deficiencies in our EMR system or PM system.
Other Vendors who have inferior products will aggressively sell a client on implementing both their offerings to mask
the deficiencies of one of their systems-usually the EMR. They stress the “one company” approach over the approach
of the Best products for the client.
If a client is happy with their current PM system and vendor support, we do
not see the need to force the practice to spend additional dollars in equipment, software and staff time to switch to our
PM system, unless there is no capability to interface. An EMR system primarily impacts the doctors and clinical staff - not
the administrative users that rely heavily on their PM system.
Why we offer an integrated EMR-PM solution Many of our clients had very old PM systems and told us they
wanted to purchase a new PM system along with our EMR. As we had been recommending for years a Windows-based PM system from
a company called MedEvolve, Inc. to all clients that told us they wanted a new server-based PM system, it was an easy transition
for us to begin offering this PM integrated with our EMR system. For clients that desire an ASP PM system, we have an integrated
our EMR with the PRS (Ray and Mark Painter) system.
Many clients that we had originally interfaced our EMR with
their older PM system were not happy with the pricing their PM vendors were charging them to interface to us, to maintain
the interface, and their ongoing yearly support fees. As we began offering our integrated solution, more and more clients
purchased both from us, and are very happy. They can make only one support call and have any questions answered or issues
resolved.
The “one database/one server” vs. “two databases/two servers” debate Many vendors
are now stressing that their EMR and PM solutions are installed on one database and server. There are many very strong reasons
why this is not the ultimate way a practice would want the two systems to be installed
First of all, the two applications
are very different - one is completely financial, while the other is primarily clinical. The heavy use of each system is by
the two distinct groups in a medical practice - the administrative staff and the clinical staff
If your PM system
goes down, the practice can still see patients easily - you may not know the patient’s current financial balance, or
be able to book next week’s appointment, but the practice can continue to work and recover.
Second, don’t
assume or believe every vendor that tells you they have only one database, even if they only sell you one server. Most of
the EMR vendors have either purchased or developed their PM and EMR systems separately, and use two databases, not one. They
may reside on one server, but are two distinct databases and they have interface software like we do, it just runs on the
same server, so you really don’t see it.
What If your EMR system goes down? What do you do? We believe the two systems should not be installed
on one server, nor integrated to just one database. This will allow your EMR system to continue to function when your PM system
goes down.
In today complex world of sophisticated networks, firewalls, wireless networks and devices, Internet,
antivirus software, etc., it is easy for a network to stop functioning for awhile. We believe keeping the life blood of your
practice (EMR) up and running smoothly is the most important piece of your integrated practice management solution
That is why we recommend two servers - not one. Think about how you would take care of a patient without any medical records
at all? Is that worth a single server solution?
Also, we send copies of every piece of data entered in your EMR
to our Web servers for instantaneous backup! If for any reason your EMR server goes down, you will redirected through the
Internet to our web servers, and be able to continue to work without missing a beat. Read more about this unique technology
in our “Blended Model” section.
As long as your PM and EMR systems “talk to each other”
in the three key areas, it is just as good as a single data base system. The areas are: 1) Patient demographics - the PM side
must pass over any new patient demographic information or changes to existing data; 2) appointments - the PM side must pass
over the patient appointments to the EMR to make it easy for the EMR system to pull charts automatically for the clinicians;
3) Finally, the EMR system should be able to send the billing information completed during the EMR encounter to PM system
for billing.
